A comprehensive critique of 10 off-line browsers
is available in the April 1997 issue of Internet World
magazine. The article can also be obtained via the
"back issue" section of the on-line version of
this magazine at "http://www.iw.com". I have personal
experience with three such off-line browsers, Freeloader,
Web Buddy and Incontext Flashsite, and I am currently
using Web Buddy. Links to the respective web pages of
these three are provided. Freeloader (http://www.freeloader.com/dlfl.htm) is one of the simplest to use and is available at no charge. Its only drawback, one which is not present in all the rest, is the time spent in downloading and refreshing all of the sites that come as a default (though these can be eliminated and replaced by custom sites of your choice). Freeloader is worth trying simply to gain experience and realize the benefits of this type of add-on to your online browser. Trial versions of Web Buddy (http://www.dataviz.com/Products/WebBuddy/WB-Home.html) and Incontext Flashsite (http://www.incontext.com/demo/index.html) are available for downloading. Another one of the group that consistently receives high ratings, but which I have not tried, is ForeFront Groups WebWhacker (http://www.ffg.com/download.all.html), which also has trial software. Try these valuable tools! Other off-line browsers, some of which have trial versions available for on-line downloading:
