Magnify Image
TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) photographs show spiral shaped organisms 3-6 µm in length, attached at one end to the cell surface causing invagination of the luminal epithelial cell membrane.

There is no marked disruption of the cell surface microvilli. The organisms have a cell wall and internal structure and are frequently seen to be spiraled or twisted.

SEM (Scanning Electron Micrographs) photographs show the colonic surface with crypts.
