The following light microscopic photographs are representative of the tissue from the right mastoid.

An admixture of inflammatory cells and pale staining cells are present in the biopsy from the mastoid region. There is superficial similarity to granulation tissue.

Langerhan's cells with abundant pale staining cytoplasm are admixed with eosinophils and other inflammatory cells.
