| Sections | CommentsMucinous metaplasia of the synovium is an unusual type of metapalsia that differs signicificantly from the typical chondroid metaplasia of the synovium that is usually present in osteoarthritic joints. Because this patient had a prior history of Duke's Stage A, colloid adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid, the possibility of mestatic carcinoma from the sigmoid primary was also considered. The immunohistochemical phenotype of the neoplastic cells as well as the ultrastructural features of the proliferating epithelial cells excluded the possibility of metastatic adenocarcinoma from the primary in the sigmoid colon. |
