Electron microscopy was performed on neutral buffered, formalin fixed tissue. There was good preservation of cellular details.

The mucinous columnar cells had round to oval nuclear contours. A single prominent nucleolus composed of a pars granulosa and filamentosa was seen in most cells. The lining synovial cells were attached to a thin basal lamina by hemidesmosomes.
