Clinical History

The patient, a 37-year-old man, sought medical help for back pain. The physician suggested the back pain was a result of a job-related injury because the patient worked in an oil field and lifted heavy objects. With time, the pain became more severe and the patient developed lower extremity weakness. The patient sought a second opinion from another physician. A magnetic resonance scan of the spinal cord showed a non-enhancing intraparenchymal mass in the thoracic spinal cord. The patient underwent surgery for biopsy of the lesion.
