ELECTRON MICROSCOPY

July 1996 - Case of the Month

[-------------------------------------------------------------]

Figure 2. Columnar tumor cells form a glandular lumen (L).
Apical regions of these cells have short microvilli, while basal
aspects have a relatively thick layer of basal lamina (BL).

Figure 3. Some tumor cells in this group have dark staining cytoplasmic inclusions (I).
The cells form a small intercellular glandular lumen (L) with microvilli.
Basal lamina (BL) of irregular thickness encloses groups and single tumor cells.

Figure 4. Tumor cells in this cluster are joined by well-formed desmosomes (D).
Many basal lamina-lined and glycosaminoglycan-containing intercellular spaces (S)
form between the tumor cells.
