Electron Microscopy - August 1996

Figure 3. In this field, the majority of the tumor cells are cross-sectioned. Many of the tumor cells are separated by a fairly uniform, but narrow, intercellular space producing a rather mosaic-like growth pattern. At this magnification, some parts of the cytoplasm are occupied by what appear to be collection of filaments. x2,200.

Figure 4. In longitudinal section, the spindle cells have nuclei in which at least portions of the nuclear membrane has a rather serrated appearance. Again, parts of the cytoplasm appear to contain filaments. The portions of two cells in the lower left corner are enlarged in Figure 3. x4,000.

Figure 5. Higher magnification of portion of spindle cells in which the majority of the cytoplasm is filled with longitudinally oriented myofilaments within which are elongated dense bodies. x8,000.
